Save the Children in Kosova/o marks breastfeeding week
From 1st to 7th of October 2017, with the motto "Supporting breastfeeding together", Save the Children, UNICEF, and the Ministry of Health are marking the Breastfeeding Week in Kosovo. The week is jointly organized in cooperation with the University Medical Clinical Center, Main Family Health Facilities, Baby Friendly Institution working group, Red Cross of Kosovo, Midwife association, and Association for Mother and Children. Last Sunday was the kick-off with a visit at the Maternity clinic within the Hospital of Ferizaj. Save the Children country director, UNICEF director, as well as the minister of Health, visited five puerperal women that also got information packages about the importance of breastfeeding.
Within the planned activities of marking the breastfeeding week, a workshop was held on Tuesday, where the topic of discussion was the challenges, plans, and importance of the breastfeeding for a healthy childhood. Representatives from Save the Children, Kosovo's Midwifery Association, UNICEF, the Ministry of Health and doctors in this field discussed the current situation in Kosovo and the importance of continuing to spread information to both, health workers and mothers.
As part of this activity, four students from the Midwife department within Medical Faculty, have created two posters with the support of our office. The first poster presents the benefits of breast milk, while the second poster emphasis the role that midwives have in informing mothers about the importance of breastfeeding.
