Save the Children Kosova/o Plans Nationwide Activities for June 1st Celebration

Every year on June 1st, the world comes together to celebrate Children's Day, a special occasion dedicated to honoring the potential and rights of children. With a strong focus on their well-being, we organized a series of activities and events this year to mark this important day. Our goal was to create an environment of joy, learning, and empowerment for the children who will become the future leaders of our society. Let's take a closer look at the  activities we organized on this memorable day.

Celebrating International Children's Day at Taukbahqe Park: A Day of Joy and Creativity

"Festa e Fëmijëve" at Taukbahqe Park was an unforgettable celebration of International Childrens Day, filled with laughter, creativity, and joy. The park buzzed with activities that made the event special for children and families alike. Highlights included a unique sign-language theatre play that conveyed important messages about environmental protection and inclusivity, as well as energetic dance performances and musical acts showcasing young talents.

Children's creativity flourished at the arts and crafts corner, where they painted, drew, and crafted their own masterpieces. The karaoke corner was a major hit, with kids eagerly showcasing their vocal talents, creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement. A tree-planting activity taught children the importance of environmental stewardship, allowing them to plant their own "Tree of Life" and contribute to a lasting green legacy in the park.

The physical games corner promoted teamwork and cooperation through interactive games, while the themed photobooth allowed families to capture precious memories with fun props and backdrops. The event's success was bolstered by the support of stakeholders, including the Mulaku Family and Friends, the German Embassy in Kosovo, GIZ, the Goethe Institute, and representatives from the Kosovo Clinical Centre, making the celebration a positive and enriching experience for all attendees.

Prishtina's Youth Present Demands for Greater Accountability to Municipal Government

Today, children from the Prishtina Municipality Assembly made strides by presenting their demands to our local government, highlighting urgent issues affecting youth. Their demands aim to enhance educational environments and overall quality of life for Prishtina's children. Key demands include:

✔️ Equal Access: Ensuring all students, regardless of physical ability, have equitable access to educational facilities. This involves constructing ramps, elevators, and other infrastructure to accommodate students with disabilities.

✔️ Employment of Assistants: Calling for assistants in schools to support children with disabilities, fostering an inclusive learning environment.

✔️ Free Public Transport: Proposing free transport for students aged 14-18 to boost school attendance, especially for those in Prishtina's outskirts and girls facing barriers to education.

Mayor Perparim Rama signed these demands, pledging to implement them, demonstrating strong support for youth and commitment to improving their educational experiences. These actions mark a significant step towards creating an equitable and supportive environment for Prishtina's children.

One Year Later: Strengthening Children's Rights and Voices in Kosovo

One year ago today, we proudly launched the child-friendly guide to the Child Protection Law, titled "I Have a Law that Protects Me." This guide was presented to the Committee on the Rights of the Child, marking a significant step toward creating an environment where children grow up healthy, safe, and treated equally. It aims to educate children about their rights and protections under the law, ensuring they are well-informed and empowered.

Today, children participated again in the meeting, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring their voices are heard and promises kept. Their involvement underscores the importance of accountability from those responsible for upholding children's rights. They addressed critical issues such as the need for safe environments, stronger measures against bullying, accessible mental health resources, active participation in decision-making, and actions to protect the environment.

Our mission is to educate children about their rights and empower them to advocate for their well-being. By providing knowledge and tools, we are helping to build a generation of informed, confident, and proactive young citizens. Through ongoing education and advocacy, we aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where children's rights are respected and upheld, ensuring all children in Kosovo grow up in a society that values and protects them.

Celebrating Children's Rights and Wellbeing Across Nine Municipalities on June 1st

On 1st of June, we partnered with ECCD centers and public preschool institutions across nine municipalities to celebrate the rights and wellbeing of children, emphasizing the importance of early childhood development and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive. The celebration featured child-friendly outdoor games and age-appropriate didactic materials, designed to promote the message that every child has the right to "Explore, Create, and Learn" while developing their cognitive and motor skills through engaging and educational activities.

Interactive workshops and activities led by experienced educators covered topics ranging from environmental awareness to creative arts, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. These workshops encouraged children to ask questions, express their ideas, and collaborate with peers, promoting social and emotional development. The event also provided a platform for educators and caregivers to share best practices and strategies for supporting early childhood development, facilitating a valuable exchange of knowledge and experiences.

The success of the celebration was evident in the smiles and laughter of the children, the enthusiastic participation of educators, and the positive feedback from parents and caregivers. It was a day filled with joy, learning, and community spirit, underscoring our commitment to inclusivity, equity, and quality education for all children. We look forward to continuing this important work and celebrating the rights and wellbeing of children on many more occasions, ensuring every child has the opportunity to explore, create, and learn, laying the foundation for a lifetime of success and fulfillment.

Our collective efforts on 1st of June underscored the vital role that the community plays in nurturing young minds. By coming together to celebrate and support our children, we demonstrated our commitment to creating an environment where every child can grow up healthy, happy, and well-educated. This event was not just a celebration, but a reaffirmation of our dedication to the principles of inclusivity, equity, and quality education for all children.
